David Byrne's American Utopia isn't going anywhere, for now. Originally slated to close in March, the Tony Award-winning musical has announced a "final extension," and is now set to run through April 3.

It is currently playing at the St. James Theatre after making its return to Broadway following its original engagement at the Hudson Theatre and the COVID-19 Broadway shutdown.

American Utopia is a concert-styled production led by the former Talking Heads founder David Byrne along with international musicians Jacquelene Acevedo, Gustavo Di Dalva, Daniel Freedman, Chris Giarmo, Tim Keiper, Tendayi Kuumba, Karl Mansfield, Mauro Refosco, Stéphane San Juan, Angie Swan, and Bobby Wooten III.

The musical concept began as an album released by Byrne in 2018 and features hit songs from his time performing with the Talking Heads, as well as his solo career. Spike Lee directed an Emmy Awarding-winning filmed version of the production which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2020. It's currently nominated for a 2022 Grammy Award for Best Music Film.
