Broadway News Alex Brightman Returns to Broadway’s School of Rock The Tony-nominated actor will play a limited engagement in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Alex Brightman, who received a Tony nomination for creating the role of Dewey Finn in Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock—The Musical, returns to the production at the Winter Garden Theatre for a limited engagement beginning April 14.

Brightman, whose Broadway credits also include Wicked, Glory Days, Matilda The Musical, and Big Fish, will play the unconventional schoolteacher through April 30. He is temporarily taking over for Eric Peterson, who is vacationing and will return to the production May 1.

Based on the hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock features music from the movie, as well as new songs written by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater and a book by Julian Fellowes.

The current cast also features Jenn Gambatese as Rosalie and Becky Gulsvig as Patty.

The musical is directed by Laurence Connor with choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, set and costume designs by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Mick Potter, and music supervision by John Rigby.

The Broadway production received four Tony nominations: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
