The Off-Broadway premiere of Staff Meal at Playwrights Horizons has extended its run, with performances now set to continue through May 24 in the company's Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Penned by Abe Koogler, the play began performances April 12 and officially opened April 28—read the reviews here.
Directed by Morgan Green, the play centers on a group of solitary city folk who are searching for connection and comfort as the world falls apart. Set in a mysterious restaurant, a group of servers is trying to keep the friendly service and tasty food coming—at least until the restaurant is no longer a safe haven at closing time.
Staff Meal stars Jess Barbagallo (The Trees) as Server, Stephanie Berry (the bandaged place), Susannah Flood (Mr. Burns) as Mina, Carmen M. Herlihy (The Apiary) as Server, Hampton Fluker (All My Sons) as Waiter, Greg Keller (The Thanksgiving Play) as Ben, and Erin Markey (Dr. Ride’s American Beach House) as Vagrant.
The creative team includes scenic designer Jian Jung, assistant director Adrian Costa, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Masha Tsimring, sound designer Tei Blow, and illusion designer Steve Cuiffo. The production stage manager is Ryan Gohsman, and the assistant stage manager is Ashton Pickering.
