Barrington Stage Company has announced initial casting for its summer 2017 season, including Broadway favorite Aaron Tveit in the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical Company.

Tveit will take on the central role of Bobby in the 1970 concept musical at the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, venue. Performances will run August 10 through September 2, with an opening night set for August 13.

The production, helmed by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, will also feature Ellen Harvey (currently on Broadway in Present Laughter) as Joanne, Lawrence Street as Harry, Jeanette Bayardelle as Sarah, Kate Loprest as Susan, Paul A. Schaefer as Peter, Jane Pfitsch as Jenny, James Ludwig as David, Lauren Marcus as Amy, Joseph Spieldenner as Paul, Peter Reardon as Larry, Nora Schell as Marta, and Rebecca Kuznick as Kathy.

The season kicks off May 18 with Jeffrey Sweet’s Kunstler, directed by Meagen Fay. Jeff McCarthy and Erin Roché will star in the production, which is set to open May 21 and run through June 10.

Conor McPherson’s stage adaptation of “The Birds” will star Kathleen McNenny as Diane, Sasha Diamond as Julie, Christopher Innvar as Nat, and Obie Award winner Rocco Sisto as Tierney. The play, based on Daphne du Maurier’s short story that also inspired the classic Alfred Hitchock film, will begin performance June 15 and run through July 8; opening night is set for June 18. Boyd will direct.

Elizabeth Stanley will star as Mother in BSC’s revival of Ragtime, running June 21 through July 15. The cast, under the direction of Joe Calarco, will also feature Darnell Abraham as Coalhouse, Zurin Villanueva as Sarah, J. Anthony Crane as Tateh, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka as Younger Brother, Anne L. Nathan as Emma Goldman, Lawrence E. Street as Booker T. Washington, Matt Gibson as Willie Conklin, Allen Kendall as JP Morgan, Joe Ventricelli as Houdini, Eric Jon Malhum as Ford, Leanne A. Smith as Evelyn Nesbit, and John Little as Grandfather. The musical, by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Terrence McNally, will officially open June 24.

Next comes Taking Steps by Alan Ayckbourn, featuring Claire Brownell, Miles G. Jackson, Richard Hollis, Matthew Greer, and Helen Cespedes. Sam Buntrock will direct the rarely staged comedy, running July 20 through August 5 and opening July 23.

As previously announced, the season will also include Stephen Karam’s Speech and Debate directed by Jessica Holt (July 13–29), Melissa James Gibson’s This directed by Christopher Innvar (August 3–27), and Patrick Hamilton’s Gaslight (Angle Street) directed by Louise Proske (October 4–22).
