From in-advance ticket purchases to last-minute steals, here’s how to see shows without breaking the bank.
1. Use a Discount
On Playbill.com, tickets are discounted by a minimum of 15 percent (up to 50 percent off), and anyone can access the full listing of these discounts by visiting Playbill.com/Club.
2. Join TDF
The Theatre Development Fund, which runs the TKTS discount ticket booths (see below), also offers a membership program for advance discount tickets. Purchase a year-long membership for $35 to access tickets ranging from $11–$47 for concerts, dance performance, Off-Off-Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Broadway. Click here to see if you are eligible for membership and to explore discounted shows.
3. Sign Up for a Discount Program
Many theatre companies offer tickets at discounted prices for younger audiences, including Lincoln Center Theatre, Roundabout Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage Theatre, and more. If you meet the age requirements (generally under age 35 or 30), sign up is free. Click here for more details.
4. Wait in the Rush Line
The shows generally release day-of-performance tickets as soon as the box office opens. Prices vary by production, but if you’re willing to wake up early and stand in line at the theatre, tickets will be under $50 each. Click here for more details.
5. Standing Room
Typically, when a Broadway show is sold out, the box office sells discounted standing room “seats,” standing positions usually located at the back of the orchestra. Click here for more details.
6. Take Advantage of Your Student Status
If you are a student with a valid ID, you may be eligible for discounts at individual theatre box offices. Click here for student rush policies of Broadway shows. Click here for student ticket policies for Off-Broadway shows.
7. Visit the TKTS Booth
Run by TDF, TKTS has booths in Times Square, Lincoln Center, and Southstreet Seaport. All offer discounted day-of tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway, and the Lincoln Center location also offers discounted day-of tickets to their programming. Click here for details.
8. Play the Lottery
Ticket lotteries for day-of-performance seats are increasingly popular—and they’re going digital! Click here to learn how to enter all of Broadway’s lotteries.
