Off-Broadway News 5 Women Will Play Every Role in Off-Broadway Revival of The Devil's Disciple

David Staller will direct the George Bernard Shaw classic for Gingold Theatrical Group.

Gingold Theatrical Group will produce a new production of George Bernard Shaw's New Hampshire-set The Devil's Disciple. But with one twist, the company says: the show will star five female actors.

Directed and adapted by Artistic Director David Staller, previews will begin October 15 prior to an official opening November 3 in Theatre Two at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row. The limited engagement will continue through November 23.

Gingold is presenting this traditionally male-driven story with a cast of five women, who will play all the roles to more fully embrace Shaw’s examination of the struggle for women’s rights. Set during the American Revolution and including events from 1777, this adaptation emphasizes the need for individuals to embrace personal responsibility to keep democracy alive and well.

“Shaw’s plays consistently challenge us to think critically and engage with the world around us, and The Devil’s Disciple is no exception,” said Staller in a statement. “As we approach a pivotal election season, this play serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of individual action and standing up for our beliefs.”

The production will also feature set design by Lindsay Genevieve Fuori, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Jamie Roderick, sound design by Julian Evans, property design by Nicole Rozanski, and casting by Geoff Josselson.

The production stage manager is April Ann Kline, and David Vandervliet is the assistant stage manager. Production management is by Aurora Productions. Natalie Kane is the assistant director.
