The Paradise Roof Garden opened atop the Victoria Theatre in 1900, produced by Oscar Hammerstein I. Legendary performers such as Houdini, Bert Williams, W.C. Fields, the Keatons, Charlie Chaplin, the Seven Little Foys, and the infamous Evelyn Nesbit and her red swing graced the Victoria stage. The theatre was gutted in 1915 and became Times Square’s first movie theatre, the Rialto.
