Donald Stewart, who acted on stage, in films and on television, died Jan. 9, 2006, after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer, the Santa Barbara News Press reported. He was 70. Mr. Stewart was most recognized for his role as Michael Bauer on the soap "Guiding Light." He first played the part in 1968 and continued in it for 16 years.

Born Nov. 14, 1935, in Great Kills, Staten Island, New York, he was raised in Nebraska. He joined the cast of the Broadway musical Camelot in the early '60s, playing a couple small parts and understudying Robert Goulet. His other Broadway credits include The Student Prince in 1963 and the Stephen Sondheim musical Anyone Can Whistle in 1964.

He moved to California in 1985 to act in television and films. His film credits include "American Ninja" and "Lost."

He is survived by his wife, Carol, and two daughters from a previous marriage, Heather and Genevra.
