Maureen O'Hara (Performer) Obituary

Maureen O'Hara, the film actress who played the the fiery Esmeralda in the 1939 film of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," the skeptical mom in "Miracle on 34th Street," and starred in a single Broadway musical, 1960's Christine, died Oct. 24 at at 95.

She received an Honorary Oscar in 2014 "to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy."

She appeared in dozens of films from the 1930s through the 1970s, notably many directed by John Ford, including "How Green Was My Valley," "Rio Grande" and "The Quiet Man."

Her Broadway debut came in 1960 as the star of Christine, a musical by Sammy Fain and Pearl S. Buck, among others. She played the title role of an Irish who woman who arrives in India to visit her daughter, but finds herself falling in love with her daughter's Indian doctor husband. The show lasted only 12 performances.
