SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in the touring production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (see breakdown).

NOTE: This audition is for adult roles in THE SOUND OF MUSIC-- auditions for the Von Trapp Children will be held in Spring 2025.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief traditional musical theatre song in the style of Rodgers & Hammerstein. Bring sheet music and your headshot and resume stapled together. A piano accompanist will be provided.

[CAPTAIN VON TRAPP] – Male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), late 30s to 50; commanding presence – retired naval officer and proud Austrian. Highly organized and regimented, efficient and smart. Baritone.

[MARIA RAINER] – Female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), early 20s; spirited, passionate and charming, though occasionally filled with self-doubt. Caring and committed. Chest mix with strong head voice.

[ELSA SCHRAEDER] – Female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), mid 30s – early 40s; a wealthy widow, she is sophisticated, charming and clever. Legit-Mezzo range (A to E below high C).

[MAX DETWEILLER]– Male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 40s – 50s; witty and clever impresario who can be charmingly pushy when pursuing what he wants. Good sense of comedy, Baritone.

[MOTHER ABBESS] – Female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 40s – 50s, Wise, kind and strong. Powerful chest and head voice – Mezzo or Soprano (B-A-flat);

[LIESL VON TRAPP] – Female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 18+ to play 16; a teen on the verge of womanhood. Innocent, naïve, and initially infatuated with Rolf. Chest mix with a head voice (low G to F#) and comfortable with dance.

[ROLF GRUBER] – Male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 18+ to play 17, epitome of clean cut, athletic German youth; self-important but pleasant, he can be somewhat aggressive. Lyric Baritone; comfortable with dance.
