Description:

The Production Manager works as a collaborative member of a team of 4 Production Managers who oversee the day-to-day progression of their individual productions as assigned by the Senior Director, Production and the Business and Operations Manager. Their work is in support of a mission to provide the highest caliber of production experience to the gifted students for whom public performance is a keystone of their training in Drama, Opera, Dance, concerts and interdisciplinary events. The Production Manager will foster an environment of creativity and inclusivity while providing leadership and guidance to the production shops, Artistic divisions, design teams, and stage managers with the goal of keeping schedules and budgets on track. In addition, they will assist the Senior Director on other short and long-term projects as assigned, helping to facilitate the smooth overall operation of the Production Department.

This is a temporary role contracted for 18 weeks. The salary for this role is $25,000 - $27,000.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop production plan and track progress on assigned productions, disseminating information as needed and responding to all enquiries. Foster communication and problem-solving with all involved to ensure forward movement on all aspects of the production.
  • Monitor and adjust schedules to cost-effectively execute productions at the highest artistic standards using feedback from the shop supervisors, division administrators, creative teams, and stage management. Schedules include but are not limited to design development, technical, performance, and maintenance.
  • Adjust scope, scale and schedule as necessary to balance the production needs with existing resources.
  • Regularly communicate with the Senior Director and the Business and Operations Manager regarding assignments, collaborating as needed to develop and facilitate solutions to challenges that arise.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with departmental leadership in order to maintain familiarity with the full range of departmental planning and operations.
  • Foster and support the Production Department’s safety protocols and procedures, ensuring safe practices are followed in the installation, operation, and removal of technical elements.
  • Compile, update and distribute informational manuals for Production Staff, Stage Management, Apprentices, and Designers on a yearly basis. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Production Department Handbook
    • Safety & Emergency Procedures Manual
    • Production Shop Information Packet
    • Stage Management Orientation & Materials
  • As assigned and in conjunction with the Senior Director, fulfill and/or participate in additional tasks with an eye towards departmental efficiency, long-term goals, and strategic planning.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work well collaboratively as part of and in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times in a fast paced, high intensity environment
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusiveness, and belonging.
  • Five years of professional experience in production management, production stage management, technical direction or a combination thereof.
  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: theater, opera, dance, or events.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn institutional software platforms for scheduling and other applications.
  • Ability to estimate and manage budgets.
  • Proactive work ethic, paying attention to detail and follow-through in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor along with tact and diplomacy.
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred Background:

  • Experience working in an educational institution.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.
