DESCRIPTION

The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts fellowships provide advanced, hands-on training in production, stage and technical operations management for recent college graduates and early career professionals.

Forbes Center fellowships begin September 1, 2024 and run through May 10, 2025.
All fellowships require a season-long commitment.

Fellows will each receive a stipend total of $15,225 for the 36 week contract which will be paid in increments bi-weekly. The fellow will not work more than 40 hours per week with an average of 29 hours per week across the season. Housing and benefits are not included.

All fellows work in their chosen concentration plus as technical production support for over 200 performances a year. Daily activities may include show prep, show running, general maintenance, and stage management of performances and rehearsals. Work hours will be irregular and will include early morning, evening and weekend calls.


Production Management Fellowship:

Mentored by the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator, the fellow will set up and operate sound, lighting and staging equipment for a variety of professional and university productions. The fellow will participate in equipment maintenance, advancing events, and stage management of select performances. Daily activities may include event prep, show running, general maintenance, and basic office operations. Work hours will be irregular and include early morning, evening, and weekend calls.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a broad knowledge and experience in technical theatre as well as solid organizational and computer skills. Familiarity with Google calendar and Microsoft office is preferred. Candidates must be able to multi-task, be highly organized, show initiative, take direction well, and work well as part of a team as well as independently.


Stage Management Fellowship:

Under the guidance of the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator, the fellow will stage manage student recitals, School of Music ensemble performances, opera programs, partnership events, and touring professional events. The fellow will take part in the rehearsal process, technical rehearsals and take notes. This demanding fellowship requires strong organizational and verbal skills, computer skills, and stage management experience. Candidates must be able to multi-task, be highly organized, show initiative, take direction well, work independently when necessary, and exhibit an ability to work as part of a team.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience stage managing theatrical and music productions. Experience with bands, orchestras and choirs is beneficial. An undergraduate degree in the arts is preferred.

Theatre Technical Operations Fellowship:

Mentored by the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator, the fellow will set up and operate sound, lighting and staging equipment for a variety of professional and university productions. The fellow will participate in equipment maintenance, advancing events, and stage management of select performances. Daily activities may include event prep, show running, general maintenance, and basic office operations. Work hours will be irregular and include early morning, evening, and weekend calls.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have a broad knowledge and experience in technical theatre as well as solid organizational and computer skills. Experience working with theatrical lighting including ETC instruments and lighting consoles is beneficial. Experience working in a theatre with a fly system is helpful. An undergraduate degree in the arts is preferred.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
