DESCRIPTION

POSITION: House Managers & Assistant House Managers

DEPARTMENT: Operations, Front of House

REPORTS TO: Front of House Supervisor

PAY: $19 - $21/hr; Part-time; Hourly; Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)

LOCATION & SCHEDULE: This is an in-person position that works at both theatre venues located at 91 University Place in Princeton, NJ. with a schedule based on the performance calendar and other departmental needs.

START DATE: These positions will be filled as needed.

POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES – House Managers

McCarter Theatre Center is seeking welcoming and focused House Managers to join the Front of House staff. House Managers (HM) are outgoing, motivated individuals who possess excellent leadership and customer service skills and must be able to multitask in an energetic environment while managing Front of House team members ranging from 15 – 20 individuals depending on the performance. Essential Functions & Duties:

· Under supervision of the Front of House Supervisor, effectively manage and run all Front of House operations for each performance with regard to patrons, artists, guests, and staff.

· Understand, respectfully communicate, and facilitate alignment with all performance guidelines and policies as set forth by McCarter.

· Facilitate performance reports for each event.

· On the spot maintenance of electronic devices: scanners, hearing devices and radios for the theatres and report to IT or Operations when issues arise.

· Check venue facilities before and after the performance to ensure that the space is fully functional, while reporting any repair and maintenance needs to Operations.

· Know and understand McCarter's emergency procedures and be able to appropriately execute them with calm and precision in the event of an emergency.

· Train other Front of House staff members under the direction of the Front of House Supervisor.

· Address any patron concerns or conflicts as escalated by Ushers, Patron Attendants or Assistant House Managers.

· Conduct pre/post-performance debriefings with staff to discuss successes, areas for improvement, and any challenges encountered during the performance.

· Collaborate with the Events & Operations Manager and events staff to ensure smooth transitions between performances and special events, including pre-show, intermission, and post-show activities.

POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES – Assistant House Managers

McCarter Theatre Center is also looking for friendly and attentive Assistant House Managers to join our Front of House team. As an Assistant House Manager (AHM), you’ll take on a key house management support role, guiding our team of Patron Attendants and Volunteer Ushers ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience for all patrons. Ideal candidates are energetic, proactive, and thrive in fast-paced situations while delivering top-notch customer service. Essential Functions & Duties:

· Support the Front of House Supervisor and House Managers (HM) to ensure the successful run of a show.

· Train and motivate a corps of Ushers, as well as leading and assisting Patron Attendants with all performance related tasks.

· Under the direction of the HM, understand, respectfully communicate, and facilitate alignment with performance guidelines and policies as set forth by McCarter.

· Assist in the maintenance of electronic devices: scanners, hearing devices and radios and report to HM when issues arise.

· Check venue facilities before and after the performance to ensure that the space may be used to its potential. Report all repair and maintenance needs to the HM.

· With calm and precision, execute appropriate emergency procedures in the event of an emergency.

· Assist with the training of other Front of House staff members at the request or direction of the Front of House Supervisor.

· Address any patron concerns or conflicts as escalated by Ushers or Patron Attendants and escalate to House Managers as needed.

Essential Functions & Duties (Both Roles):

· Follow all emergency procedures regarding venue evacuation and know the location of all exits throughout the building.

Qualifications (Both Roles):

· Leadership and management experience working with large groups of people

· Microsoft Office knowledge (Word, Excel, & Outlook)

· Possesses a confident and approachable personality with excellent customer service skills Exceptional diplomacy, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; a proven track record of building and nurturing relationships with customers and colleagues alike

· Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, and maintain composure while making swift decisions and solving problems

· Dedication to providing superior customer service, with a warm and welcoming demeanor that fosters a positive experience for all patrons and guests

· A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work harmoniously with individuals from diverse backgrounds, personalities, and work styles, always approaching challenges with optimism, civility, and a solutions-oriented approach.

· Final candidates must successfully complete a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

· Ability to communicate in other languages (e.g. ASL and multilingual)

· Current CPR & First Aid certification

· The ideal candidate will embody an enthusiasm for the performing arts, with particular interest in supporting and elevating the work of global artists across many disciplines

Work Environment:

· Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during the performance season, as scheduled in advance

· Work will primarily be completed in the lobbies and performance/seating spaces, subject to HVAC cooling and heating.

· This position entails extended periods of independent standing e.g. 3-4 hour intervals, the ability to read and interpret documents/ticket scanning devices, engaging in repetitive tasks, walking, bending, and reaching within the work environment.

· Ascend and descend 40 or more steps quickly

· Ability to work in dim lighting (e.g. in order to read tickets) and walk in limited lighting (e.g. to assist patrons with seating)

· Potential for moderate to high noise environments depending on production and performance elements; ability to hear and speak clearly in areas with significant background noise (e.g. in order to answer patron questions)
