Chilina Kennedy and Henry
Chilina Kennedy
Chilina Kennedy – Beautiful
“Being a mom on Broadway is all about flexibility and always having a couple of good backup plans. Henry gets to grow up around the very interesting and talented people in our theater community, and I am so grateful to those who help make it easier for both of us!”

Rachel York – Disaster
“I believe parenthood made me a better actress. There is a grounding that occurs when one becomes a mother. I don’t have time to get nervous or waste energy thinking about my own ego. I feel like my love for Olivia could move mountains.”

Rachel Tucker - Wicked
“For me it's like having the best of both worlds! To have a job that you love and cherish, with people at stage door telling you how much you have changed their lives, to then go home and only be known as 'mum' with such unconditional love coming your way-it's like having your cake and eating it! And what a deliciously, multilayered, sometimes too heavy but never enough, flavour cake it is!”

Carolee Carmello – Tuck Everlasting
“One of the trickiest things about being a mom who works on Broadway is the crazy schedule, which is so opposite a kid's schedule. Sometimes texting, calling, or Skyping can fill in the gaps.”

Diane Paulus – Waitress
“I feel very lucky to be in a field where I can share my work with my children. My daughters Natalie and Katharine come to rehearsals and tech -- they love to go backstage (at Waitress they always want to eat the prop pies!) When I was working on Pippin, they would beg me to take them to the Music Box where they routinely danced along to the entire show at the back of the house (the ushers came to know them and were very indulgent). I always learn something when I watch my shows through their eyes.”
Casey Hushion – Aladdin
“There is not a day that I walk into a Broadway theatre that I don’t feel grateful to be able to do what I love, and I just hope my kids see that and try to find that passion in their own lives someday.”

"My absolute favorite role ever is Hazel's Mum! I have my family with me on the road and it is a huge treat that we can share this big adventure together. The days are filled with zoos, children's museums, aquariums, parks and so much more. It can be exhausting but in the very best way. Hazel inspires me every day with her magical view of life and I'm so thankful for every moment!"

“As Mothers Day approaches, I contemplate what it means to be a Parent to my adult Sons, Stuart Taranto and Geoffrey Gresh, and how that responsibility and great joy has shifted and changed through the years as they have grown. Whether I'm at home and fully accessible or on the road, one thing never changes: they are my top priority, my life's blood, my HEARTSONG! I am so grateful for their excitement, enthusiastic support of my creative ventures, and the effort they make to keep in touch by text, video, Facebook, email, and phone.

I love seeing their day beginning with yawning cats as they brew their coffee or join in as they end the day with a sleepy midnight snack.. I am grateful for modern technology and a wonderful, supportive company (ROUNDABOUT). Our management team, Denny Daniello and his assistant, Aaron DiFrancia, are so welcoming and personable; they create a family environment on the road and go out of their way to accommodate visiting family.

Most of all, I am grateful for my Mother, Mafalda Iannelli, who never ceases to amaze me with her support and insights, and is the best Grandma and example of what it is to be a Mother for me! At this moment, our tour bus is careening down the highway to Baltimore, MD, our last engagement before our first break in four months. My sons are driving from New Jersey to spend a few days with me, together again...finally. I am so happy, so excited, and so very grateful. Wherever I am, they are in my Heart and I am in theirs. Happy Mothers Day!!!”
