AwardsWest End Company, Hamilton,The Inheritance Among 2018 Evening Standard Theatre Award WinnersThe 64th annual ceremony took place November 18 in London.
A buzzy revival, a Broadway juggernaut, and a new, two-part drama each won big at the 2018 Evening Standard Theatre Awards, which took place November 18 at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Director Marianne Elliott won for helming her reimagined production of the Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical Company, which saw the central, male character of Bobby as the female Bobbie. Rosalie Craig won the award for Best Musical Performance for her start turn in said role.
The West End production was also up for Best Musical, though that category ultimately went to the U.K. premiere of Hamilton, which continued its awards streak after winning seven Olivier Awards earlier this year. Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical also earned Jamael Westman the Emerging Talent Award for his performance as the title Founding Father.
Other big wins included Mathew Lopez's two-part The Inheritance—which was named Best Play, as well as the National Theatre's Antony and Cleopatra stars Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo.

The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
