We're ready to look at the green light. The stars of the upcoming The Great Gatsby musical, Eva Noblezada and Jeremy Jordan, gave an advance look at the show September 28. The two, joined by the show's cast, performed three songs from the new Kait Kerrigan, Jason Howland, and Nathan Tysen musical: the jazzy number "Roaring On," the ballad "Beautiful Little Fool," and the romantic duet "My Green Light" (with flying shirts). Watch the video above.
The Great Gatsby, based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name, is scheduled for October 12-November 12 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. Opening night is October 22. Noblezada plays Daisy Buchanan and Jordan plays Jay Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby, which features a book by Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones) and an original score by Tony nominees Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square), is set in the Roaring '20s and follows eccentric millionaire Jay Gatsby, who will stop at nothing in his tragic pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he loved in his youth.
The upcoming production will also have choreography by Dominique Kelley, music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Howland, musical direction by Daniel Edmonds, scenic and projection design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe and Rachael Geier, and fight and intimacy direction by Rocío Mendez. The production stage manager is Brian Bogin. Casting is by C12 Casting.
“The jazz era setting of The Great Gatsby presents such a natural opportunity for music,” said Paper Mill Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee in an earlier statement. “But this team has also found ways to musicalize the characters’ deep, rich hopes and dreams with such surprising and dramatic subtlety. We cannot wait to welcome Paper Mill audiences to this thrilling world premiere of The Great Gatsby.”
The Great Gatsby is produced by special arrangement with Chunsoo Shin, award-winning Korean theatre producer and OD Company president.
A separate, immersive production of The Great Gatsby recently played Off-Broadway, while another musical version (by Florence Welch, Thomas Bartlett, and Martyna Majok) will debut in 2024.
Adapted from Alexandra Shiva's 2015 documentary, the show follows the challenges faced by a group of autistic young adults at an Ohio counseling center.
