PBS heads to the opera this weekend with the small screen premieres of the Lyric Opera of Chicago production of Orphée et Eurydice, directed and choreographed by John Neumeier, and the Metropolitan Opera recent presentation of Aida, starring Anna Netrebko.
First up is Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice, airing on Great Performances on Friday, January 18 at 9 PM. A co-production between the Joffrey Ballet and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the opera stars Dmitry Korchak and Andriana Chuchman in the title roles. Watch a clip from the production above.
Two days later, on Sunday, January 20, the new season of Great Performances at the Met begins with the Met Opera production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida. It airs at 12 PM on national PBS stations and 1 PM on THIRTEEN in New York. Anna Netrebko stars in the title role, opposite Anita Rachvelishvili as Amneris and Aleksandrs Antonenko as Radamès.
