Featuring music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown and a book by Andrew Bergman — the director and screenwriter of the original film — the musical is directed by Gary Griffin with choreography by Denis Jones.
Opening night at Paper Mill is scheduled for Oct. 6. Performances will continue through Oct. 27.
The cast is led by Tony Danza as Tommy Korman, a widowed and unscrupulous gambler looking for another shot at love; Tony nominee Rob McClure as Jack Singer; and Brynn O'Malley as Betsy Nolan. The three artists are joined by Tony nominee Nancy Opel as Bea Singer, Matthew Saldivar as Johnny Sandwich, David Josefsberg as Tony Rocky/Roy Bacon and Catherine Ricafort as Mahi.
The ensemble comprises Matt Allen, Stanley Bahorek, Tracee Beazer, Grady McLeod Bowman, Barry Busby, Daniel J. Edwards, Paige Faure, Leslie Donna Flesner, Gaelen Gilliland, Sarah Marie Jenkins, Max Kumangai, Raymond Lee, George Merrick, Mara Newbery and Katie Webber.
Honeymoon in Vegas, according to press notes, "is an insanely funny musical that tells the tale of Jack Singer (McClure), a guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage, who finally overcomes his phobia and goes to Las Vegas to wed his longtime girlfriend, Betsy (O’Malley). Enter Tommy Korman (Danza), a widowed and unscrupulous gambler looking for another shot at love. Tommy spots Betsy, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, and the game is afoot." The production also features music direction by Thomas Murray, orchestrations by Don Sebesky, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Brian Hemesath, lighting design by Paul Miller, sound design by Randy Hansen and hair and wig design by Bettie O. Rogers.
It's a busy season for composer Brown, whose other new musical, The Bridges of Madison County, will arrive on Broadway in 2014. His two-person musical, The Last Five Years, recently enjoyed a revival presented by Second Stage Theatre.
