LAST CHANCE
March 20: All good things must come to an end, as with the hit television series "Glee." Premiering in 2009 and garnering a loyal worldwide following, the show has boosted the careers of Broadway stars Lea Michele, Darren Criss and Matthew Morrison among others. The sixth and final season will conclude March 20.
March 22: Idina Menzel will take her final bow as the star of If/Then, a role that saw her nominated for another Tony Award. The contemporary, Manhattan-set musical explores life, love and destiny.
March 29: The 2014 Broadway revival of Cabaret starring the formidable Alan Cumming will have its final curtain call. Currently starring Sienna Miller as Sally Bowles, cabaret singer at the 1930 Berlin's decadent Kit Kat Klub, the Tony nominated revival has been an acclaimed hit for a full year since beginning previews in March last year.
OPENING March 19: Wendy Wasserstein's groundbreaking Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning play, The Heidi Chronicles, remains as relevant today as it was in 1988. Helmed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon, it is a moving coming-of-age story set in New York and starring some of the stage and screen's hottest actors: Elizabeth Moss, Jason Biggs and Bryce Pinkham.
PREVIEWS
March 20 and March 21: Hilary Mantel's best-selling novels about Henry VIII are brought to the stage in two parts Wolf Hall and its sequel, Bring Up the Bodies. The Royal Shakespeare Company productions played an extended repertory run in London and original stars Ben Miles, Lydia Leonard and Nathaniel Parker will return for the Broadway engagement. Patrons wishing to see both shows can purchase a ticket bundle at a discounted rate.
March 23: The highly anticipated new musical comedy Something Rotten offers a different perspective on the famous Bard. Tony winner Christian Borle and Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James co-star as dueling playwrights Shakespeare and the far less famous (and envious) Nick Bottom, respectively. Helmed by Tony Award-winning Aladdin and The Book of Mormon director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw, the show features a hugely talented cast and promises many laughs and an inspired, fresh score.
March 27: "The Killing" and "Garden State" star Peter Sarsgaard , who also has numerous Off-Broadway and Broadway credits, will try his hand at one of Shakespeare’s most famous characters in Hamlet at Classic Stage Company. Director Austin Pendleton has promised a riveting and contemporary take on the classic play.
March 27: The Pulitzer-nominated Jeanine Tesori – Lisa Kron musical, Fun Home, based on Allison Bechdel's graphic memoir will kick off its Broadway run following an acclaimed, popular Off-Broadway premiere. Sam Gold, who helmed the original production will return to direct much of the same cast including Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Tony nominee Judy Kuhn.
March 27: Based on Boris Pasternak’s Nobel Prize-winning 20th-century Russian masterpiece, the Doctor Zhivago musical brings together some of the most acclaimed and talented in the business. The production is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, with a book by Academy Award nominee Michael Weller, music by two-time Grammy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Lucy Simon, lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie and Emmy Award nominee Amy Powers and choreography by Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine. The cast is headed by Tam Mutu, Kelli Barrett, Tony Award nominee Tom Hewitt and Lora Lee Gayer.
SPECIAL EVENTS
March 21: On the eve of Stephen Sondheim's 85th birthday, a host of Broadway favorites will celebrate the legendary composer with a concert dedicated to his music, Sondheimas at 54 Below. Songs both well known and obscure will be sung by Kurt Peterson (Follies original cast), Liz Larsen (Beautiful) and Ariana DeBose (Hamilton) among others.
March 23: CeeLo Green, Glen Hansard, Billy F. Gibbons, Sharon Jones and more will celebrate the music of David Byrne and Talking Heads in a special benefit concert at Carnegie Hall. 100% of proceeds will go towards music education organizations for underprivileged youth.
March 24: The ever-cool lead singer of Blondie and front-woman of the new wave and punk rock movement, Debbie Harry will make her Café Caryle debut beginning March 24 through April 4. With an acting and singing career that spans over 40 years, the iconic performer is sure to put on a stellar solo concert show.
