Step Inside Broadway’s Lyric Theatre, Home to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child | Playbill

Inside the Theatre Step Inside Broadway’s Lyric Theatre, Home to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Inside the Theatre, the photo feature series that documents Broadway’s historic playhouses, continues with the Lyric Theatre.

Playbill’s photo series Inside the Theatre captures the dazzling architecture and unseen details of the world’s most famous theatres, taking you inside all 41 of the Broadway houses.

The Lyric Theatre opened as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts in 1998 as part of the extensive Times Square renewal project. The new facility combined restored elements of the condemned Lyric and Apollo Theatres that once inhabited the site. The venue was renamed the Hilton Theatre in 2005, the Foxwoods Theatre in 2010, and the Lyric Theatre in 2014.

The Ambassador Theatre Group, which owns the Lyric Theatre, announced in December 2016 that it planned to re-configure the venue—Broadway's largest—into a marginally more intimate playhouse, dropping from 1,900 seats to approximately 1,500.

Currently playing at the theatre is the Broadway transfer of the London smash hit Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, for which the theatre was renovated. The show arrived on Broadway March 16, 2018.
