International News Royal Shakespeare Company's Richard III to Receive U.K. Cinema Broadcast

The production stars Arthur Hughes, the first disabled actor to take on the play's title role at RSC.

Stratford-Upon-Avon's Royal Shakespeare Company has announced its production of Richard III will be broadcast across cinemas in the U.K. and Ireland, as well as Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man September 28–October 8.

The production stars the previously announced Arthur Hughes as Richard III, the first disabled actor to take on the role in Royal Shakespeare Company's history. Performances began June 23 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and will continue through October 8.

Joining Hughes in the cast is Nicholas Armfield, Micah Balfour, Oscar Batterham, Claire Benedict, Kirsty Bushell, Sophie Cartman, Callum Coates, Simon Coates, Matthew Duckett, Will Edgerton, Minnie Gale, Ashley D Gayle, Conor Glean, Ben Hall, Olivia Onyehara, Thom Petty, Joeravar Sangha, Eloise Secker, Rosie Sheehy, and Jamie Wilkes.

Director Gregory Doran leads the creative team which includes associate director Aaron Parsons, designer Stephen Brimson Lewis, lighting designer Matt Daw, sound designer Claire Windsor, and fight directors Rachel Brown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown. Music is Paul Englishby, movement is by Siân Williams, and video is by Leo Flint

The Shakespeare history play follows the rise of the ruthlessly ambitious Richard III to the throne during the Wars of the Roses, and the schemes he is willing to put in motion to attain power. But, the higher the climb, the harder the fall.
