Following the success of its acclaimed 2016 staging of Jesus Christ Superstar, which transfers to the Barbican Theatre in July, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre will take on Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s 1978 rock hit Evita as part of its 2019 summer season.
The season will open with Thornton Wilder’s Our Town May 16–June 8, directed by Ellen McDougall. Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera Hansel and Gretel, staged in partnership with the English National Opera, will follow June 14–22. Sheader will direct.
Also planned is a revival of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Dominic Hill, June 28–July 27.
Evita, directed by Jamie Lloyd, will close the season August 2–September 21. The production will incorporate the Oscar-winning ballad "You Must Love Me" from the 1996 film adaptation.
Public booking opens December 18.
