The Hollywood celebrities showed up last night at the opening night of Good Night, Oscar at the Belasco Theatre, April 25. It was a fitting turn-out considering the show's subject matter: pianist-entertainment personality Oscar Levant. See what critics had to say about the show here.
Starring Sean Hayes in the title role, Good Night, Oscar takes place in 1958. Oscar has been asked to be a guest on TheTonightShow. The only problem is he's also checked into a mental hospital. The play by Doug Wright sees the protagonist battling mental issues, substance abuse, and personal demons (and features a bravura performance by Hayes, who also plays the piano for seven minutes straight).
On the red carpet, the attendees included Matt Damon, Molly Ringwald, Steven Spielberg, Shoshana Bean, John Krasinki, and many more. View Playbill's photos from opening night of Good Night, Oscar below.

The project is the second attempt to craft a play around Hayes portraying Levant. Playwright David Adjmi recently alleged that his own Levant play, written for Hayes and the same producing team behind Good Night, Oscar, was stymied by the development of Wright's version.

Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
