The award-winning film, the first time in wide release in 60 years, is fully restored and boasts an extended pre-show featurette with Tony-winning Oklahoma native Kristin Chenoweth singing songs from the classic musical.
“I can remember watching ‘Oklahoma!’ and my heart soared,” said Chenoweth in a statement. “A musical about the very place where I was growing up that has always remained special to me. From the very first downbeat of the overture to the very last note of this score, ‘Oklahoma!’ is my favorite musical.”
This limited release, a partnership between BY Experience and Rodgers & Hammerstein, will have more than 800 screenings nationwide.
The 1943 musical was the first collaboration of lyricist-librettist Oscar Hammerstein II and composer Richard Rodgers. The score includes "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," "I Cain't Say No," "Out of My Dreams" and the title song. The 1955 film, which won two Academy Awards, starred Gordon MacRae, Gloria Grahame, Gene Nelson, Charlotte Greenwood and Shirley Jones.
