Songs From an Unmade Bed is described as "a solo work that propels a smart, resilient, wry and ultimately romantic gay New Yorker through the heartache and triumphs of love in the Big City. Mark Campbell's lyrics, on the endlessly surprising experience of urban romance, have been set by an eclectic roster of musical artists. Original ensemble members, Michael Winther, Kimberly Grigsby and Shane Shanahan are joined by Peter Sachon on cello as they reunite with lyricist Mark Campbell and many of the composers for a special one-night-only concert event, celebrating the ten year anniversary of Songs from an Unmade Bed, the critically acclaimed, theatrical song cycle originally produced by Off-Broadway by New York Theatre Workshop in 2005. It will be the first opportunity to hear this work in NYC in ten years!"
Loudon Wainwright III's Surviving Twin will be performed four Wednesday nights in June on June 3, 10, 17 and 24. According to Subculture, "The piece is a posthumous collaboration in which Wainwright will combine and connect some of his best songs with the writing of his late father Loudon Wainwright Jr, the esteemed LIFE Magazine columnist. His column The View From Here appeared in the magazine throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. The evening will be a game of creative catch between son and father, exploring issues like birth, loss, parenthood, fashion, pet ownership, and mortality. Surviving Twin has been previously performed at Manhattan’s Westside Theatre and as part of UNC's Playmakers series."
Yazbek: An Intimate Implosion will be held June 4 at 8 PM.
The Tony-nominated composer/musician David Yazbek (The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) will perform "personal favorites from his vast repertoire of solo material and theatrical shows, while also giving the audience a peak into the creative process behind them."
