Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced the programming for its fall season, which includes a musical based on the indie film Safety Not Guaranteed, a new work by Rachel Chavkin's theatre company the TEAM, and the 2024 Next Wave Festival. It'll be the first season under BAM's new artistic director, Amy Cassello (formerly the theatre's programmer).

The fall season will begin with the musical Safety Not Guaranteed (September 17–October 20). It is based on the 2012 indie film of the same name, which follows a journalist who investigates on a classified ad that says: "Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me." Nick Blaemire (Glory Days) will write the book, Ryan Miller of the band Guster will write the music, and Lee Sunday Evans (of the upcoming Wrinkle in Time musical) will direct.

BAM will also present a public workshop production of Tony winner Rachel Chavkin's newest work with her experimental theatre company The TEAM, Reconstructing (Still Working but the Devil Might Be Inside), performing October 24–27. Chavkin and Zhailon Levingston (Cats: "The Jellicle Ball") will co-direct. The work explores the relationship between BIPOC Americans and white Americans and how, according to press notes, we might “move through history together.”

In the fall, BAM will also present its 2024 Next Wave festival of experimental and international theatre. Among the shows announced are a new work by Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane Company called Still/Here, performing October 30–November 2; a Spanish adaptation of Chekhov's Seagull called Gaviota by Guillermo Cacace, performed by Argentinian actors November 13–23; and Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists from Portuguese theatre artist Tiago Rodrigues, performing November 13–17.
