Mean Girls Star Jonathan Bennett to Make Broadway Debut in Spamalot

His helmet looks sexy pushed back: Mean Girls film star Jonathan Bennett will join the Broadway revival of Spamalot later this month.

Bennett, who will be making his Broadway debut, will succeed Michael Urie as Sir Robin, the cowardly yet creative knight of the roundtable. Urie's final performance will be January 21, with Bennett taking up the mantle January 23.

Urie, as previously reported, will star in the City Center Encores! staging of Once Upon a Mattress January 24-February 4, before he rejoins a prior television commitment.

Bennett isn't the only cast member joining the roundtable this January: Tony nominee Alex Brightman will step into the role of Lancelot January 9 following the exit of Taran Killam.

The revival of Spamalot opened November 16 at the St. James Theatre after beginning performances October 31.

The company currently features Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton) as King Arthur, with Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (Beetlejuice) as The Lady of the Lake, Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Waitress) as Patsy, Tony nominee Ethan Slater (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) as The Historian/Prince Herbert, Killam (Hamilton, Saturday Night Live) as Lancelot, Jimmy Smagula (Billy Elliot) as Sir Bedevere, Drama Desk Award winner Urie (Shrinking, Torch Song) as Sir Robin, and Nik Walker (Hamilton) as Sir Galahad.

Based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the Holy Grail, complete with coconut-shell horse hooves, a run-in with the Knights Who Say "Ni!," and more.

The musical, which took home the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005, features a book by Eric Idle and a score by Idle and John Du Prez. Josh Rhodes directs and choreographs the revival after staging the production's premiere at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., earlier this year.

The production features scenic and projection design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Kai Harada and Haley Parcher, wig design by Tom Watson, and music direction by John Bell. Casting is by JZ Casting. Matthew Lacey serves as the production stage manager, and RCI Theatricals serves as general manager.
