Flash Force! Middle-Aged Women Superheroes Save Democracy, Deborah Grace Winer's six-part podcast adventure comedy series, launches August 27 with the first two 20-minute episodes.

Directed by Mark Waldrop, the cast features Lucie Arnaz, Judy Blazer, Donna Lynne Champlin, Jason Graae, Kevin Isola, Tony winner Kecia Lewis, Nancy Opel, Linda Purl, Emily Skinner, and Tony winner Karen Ziemba.

Flash Force! is set on New York’s Upper West Side and follows five middle-aged women from the Broadway community in their 12th year of group therapy and their octogenarian therapist, who are suddenly transformed by an accident in a physics lab. They find they possess superpowers and set off to battle the evil organization ORWELL, which is bent on destroying democracy worldwide.

The series, which drops a new episode each Wednesday, also has music and sound design by Nathan Scalzone and editing and sound design by April Tucker.

“This started as a pandemic project,” Winer said in a statement, “as a theatrical cooperative of friends—luckily for us, really talented, accomplished friends. We got together for Zoom readings, two episodes at a time, and laughed ourselves silly. When the pandemic opened up, we recorded all six episodes … It’s what creating new theatre is all about—getting together and running with it, especially in today’s artistic climate. We figured if Shakespeare could do it with his gang, so could we.”
