Tony nominee Louise Pitre, Broadway's original Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia!, will lead the Canadian premiere of Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo in the title role, in a new staging directed by Robert McQueen. A co-production of Montreal's Segal Centre for Performing Arts, the staging will play Toronto's CAA Theatre in January and February 2026, with exact dates to be announced.

The 2023 Tony Award-winning Best Musical centers on Kimberly, a bright and funny New Jersey teen who happens to look like a 72-year-old lady. The work features a Tony-winning score with music by Tesori and lyrics by Lindsay-Abaire, and a Tony-winning book by Lindsay-Abaire, adapted from his earlier play of the same name. The Canadian premiere, part of the 2025-206 Off-Mirvish season, is being presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

The Off-Mirvish season also includes a Canadian professional premiere for Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's Bright Star. The production will feature a company of actor-musicians directed by Jacob Wolstencroft and co-produced with Garner Theatre Productions, the latter noted for its actor-musician stagings of Once and Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812. While both of those shows were produced originally on Broadway with actor-musicians, the setup will be new for Bright Star, which played a Broadway run in 2016. Produced by Donna Garner and Tricia Soltys, the premiere will play CAA Theatre in September and November of this year.

Also making Canadian premieres this season will be Elizabeth McGovern in Ava: The Secret Conversations in November, and Susan Hill's The Woman in Black, beginning in December 2025 and continuing through January 2026. An adaptation of Edmond Rostand's Cyrano by Virgina Gay will make its North American premiere, produced by Roast Productions, in March and April 2026.
