Larissa FastHorse will become the first female Native American playwright produced on Broadway when Second Stage brings her The Thanksgiving Play to the Hayes Theatre in Spring 2023, a production set to be helmed by Tony-winning Hadestown director Rachel Chavkin.

Described as a satirical comedy, the play centers on a troupe of well-meaning white theatre artists who attempt to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving school pageant that gives voice to Native Americans. The work received its world premiere Off-Broadway in 2018 at Playwrights Horizons, and an online production starring Bobby Cannavale, Keanu Reeves, Heidi Schreck, and Alia Shawkat streamed in March 2021. The Broadway bow will be a new production.

Also joining Second Stage's upcoming season is Tony-nominated Grand Horizons playwright Bess Wohl's Camp Siegfried, which will make its New York debut Off-Broadway at the Tony Kiser Theatre in a new production directed by David Cromer. Set on the cusp of World War II at Long Island's real-life Camp Siegfried, the play follows two teenagers who find themselves headed towards either young passion or fascist extremism. The play received its world premiere at London's Old Vic last year.

Both productions join Second Stage's previously announced 2022-2023 season, which will see the Broadway premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis' Between Riverside and Crazy, directed by Austin Pendleton and scheduled to begin performances at the Hayes Theatre this fall.
