According to the producers, "The Bad Years is a high-octane house party where bacchanalian revelry gives way to true connection. The audience joins a cast of archetypal twenty-somethings as they flirt, fight, and flip-cup their way into adulthood. For some this is a shot of nostalgia, for others, a pint of catharsis. The audience moves freely throughout the party, choosing their own adventure and proving that The Bad Years make the best stories."
Kerrigan and Lowdermilk began developing The Bad Years as part of Theaterworks Silicon Valley's festival of new works. It has since been workshopped at The Goodspeed New Musicals Festival and, most recently, at CAP 21. Their other musicals include The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown and Henry & Mudge.

In 2013, the writing team joined forces with Evan Bernardin (Leonard Soloway Productions) and Zach Zamchick (Queen of the Night) to put an interactive spin on the project. This workshop will be the piece's first immersive staging.
