Jonathan Groff’s New Netflix Series Mindhunter Premieres Tonight | Playbill

Film & TV News Jonathan Groff’s New Netflix Series Mindhunter Premieres Tonight The new series, starring the two-time Tony nominee, debuts October 13.

“How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks?” That’s the question posed by Netflix’s new original series Mindhunter, which will begin streaming October 13.

Set in 1979, two-time Tony-nominated actor Jonathan Groff plays FBI Agent Holden Ford—one half of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit team that aims to help local police find serial killers (and get ahead of them) by better understanding their psychology through working with already imprisoned murderers.

The series is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas, who is also the inspiration for Groff’s character. This extended trailer implies Groff’s character gets a little too close to the crazy. Will he get sucked into exhibiting the psychopathic tendencies he’s trying to dissect?

Already renewed for a second season, the series was the reason for Groff’s early departure as King George in the Broadway smash Hamilton, for which he earned his second Tony nomination. Groff earned his first Tony nomination, and a Theatre World Award, for his role as Melchior Gabor in 2007’s Spring Awakening.

Groff recently appeared in Sondheim on Sondheim at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and debuted on the podcast musical 36 Questions.
