Mitchell returned to Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Feb. 24 after taking a week-long hiatus to recover (Michael C. Hall returned to perform the role for the Feb. 17-21 performances). Read more about it here.
Now back in the swing of things, the unstoppable Mitchell has added new elements to his performance that provide context to explain the knee brace he wears throughout the performance, having supposedly endured an attack from a masked assailant wearing a Michael C. Hall mask (allegedly, Hedwig tells us, several Broadway performers, including Sting, are under questioning).
Supposedly, Yitzhak (played by Tony winner Lena Hall) saved Hedwig from her attack per Mitchell's newly added backstory, which only adds to the pair's on-stage chemistry. It involves a small crate that Yitzhak brings on stage for Hedwig to rest her leg on. Hedwig also employs the use of a glittery crutch, adding flair to the affair.
Mitchell, perhaps even more tart-tongued than before, continues to fire on all cylinders in Hedwig. His engagement, which has fans flocking to the Belasco Theatre, continues through April 26. Mitchell spoke with Playbill.com about his return to the production.
