The awards ceremony is airing on NBC.

Awards season is officially beginning! The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony takes place January 10, honoring the best of film and television in 2022, as recognized by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association. NBC will air the event, typically one of the season's most relaxed and fun-filled awards shows, live from the Beverly Hilton at 8 PM ET. 

Nominations were announced December 12 and several theatre names are in contention for a Globe this year. 

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama finds nominations for Tony winner Viola Davis for The Woman King and Tony nominees Cate Blanchett for Tár and Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans, along with Olivia Colman and Ana de Armas. Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama is equally stacked with Tony winner Hugh Jackman for The Son and Tony nominees Jeremy Pope (currently on Broadway in The Collaboration) for The Inspection and Bill Nighy for Living. The category also includes Austin Butler for Baz Luhrmann's Elvis and Brendan Fraser for the film adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter's play The Whale.

Other Broadway vets with Golden Globe nominations include Daniel Craig for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Adam Driver for White Noise, Ralph Fiennes for The Menu, Carey Mulligan for She Said, Eddie Redmayne for The Good Nurse, Laura Linney for Ozark, Andrew Garfield for Under the Banner of Heaven, F. Murray Abraham for The White Lotus, Jessica Chastain (soon returning to Broadway in A Doll's House) for George and Tammy, Julia Roberts for Gaslit, Claire Danes for Fleishman Is in Trouble, and Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary. Both Steve Martin and Martin Short are nominated for the fan-favorite series Only Murders in the Building, which is also nominated for Best Television Series. Michelle Yeoh, who was recently cast as Madame Morrible in the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, earned a nod for The Daniels' metaverse action film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Five-time Tony nominated playwright Martin McDonagh is nominated as Best Director and for Best Screenplay for his film The Banshees of Inisherin, which also up for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. The movie is also has four acting nominations and a Best Score nod, boding well for its chances at the Oscars.

Films nominated for Best Motion Picture - Drama are Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, and Top Gun: Maverick. The musical or comedy category includes Babylon, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and Triangle of Sadness, along with the aforementioned The Banshees of Inisherin.
