The show, which traces the story of how Judy, nee Frances Gumm, made her way from her small-town home to play the role of Dorothy in the classic film musical “The Wizard of Oz,” is scheduled for Sept. 16–Nov. 27, 2016. Conceived by Tina Marie Casamento, the show will have a book by Mark Acito (Allegiance). David Libby will adapt the music, which will include "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "You Made Me Love You" and "Over the Rainbow.”
Also announced for the Goodspeed Musicals 2016 season:
Cole Porter's classic musical comedy Anything Goes, which will run April 8–June 16; and Strouse & Adams’ Bye Bye Birdie, scheduled for June 24–Sept. 4.
For the first time this year, Goodspeed will sell season tickets that include both the Goodspeed Opera House mainstage in East Haddam, CT, and the smaller Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, CT.
The two-show Chester season will feature:
The rarely-seen Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley musical The Roar of the Greasepaint — The Smell of the Crowd will run May 19–June 26, and a new musical A Sign of the Times featuring the songs made famous by British singer Petula Clark “and other hit-makers of the day” July 28–Sept. 4. The show has an original story by Richard Robin and an original book by comedy writer Bruce Vilanch.
The five-show season subscriptions start at $196.
