Forbidden Sondheim: Merrily We Stole a Song, the latest work from Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini, has added an additional performance in the Green Fig Cabaret Theater, located in the Yotel on West 42nd Street.
The limited engagement, which began October 27, will now offer an extra show November 26 at 7:30 PM. Other remaining show times are November 24 and November 25 at 8 PM and November 27 at 7:30 PM.
Written and directed by Alessandrini as a tribute to his late friend,
the cast includes Michael West as Tony-winning composer-lyricist
Stephen Sondheim, Dayna Jarae Dantzler, Chris Collins-Pisano, and Jenny
Lee Stern with Christine Pedi as special guest.
Merrily We Stole a Song includes new parodies of Sondheim's shows and classic favorites from Forbidden Broadway's 40 years of spoofing Sondheim shows and stars.
“I feel like Forbidden Broadway and Stephen Sondheim have come full circle with this new Merrily We Stole a Song,” Alessandrini said in a recent statement. “The very first Forbidden Broadway started previewing in late 1981, just as the original production of Merrily We Roll Along
was opening on Broadway. In fact, our original show logo at that time, was a spoof on the real Merrily poster. And here we are again,
reopening the exact same time Merrily... has returned to Broadway. Both shows are now 42 years old. But this time Forbidden Sondheim has four decades of Sondheim spoofs to add to it!”
