The Shubert Organization is now accepting applications for its 2023 internship program, set to run July 10–August 18. Applications, which can be submitted via an online form or email, will be accepted through March 17.
The initiative is part of Shubert's efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Broadway industry. The internship will provide participants with training in theatre administration and operations. Interns will work on projects hands-on as the organization prepares for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
Interns will be paid $18 an hour with 20 hours per week of work, and will also receive weekly MTA Metrocards, tours of Shubert theatres, development opportunities, and access to Broadway shows and events. The 2023 internships will include positions focused on theatre management, ticketing, facilities project management, ticketing technology, and human resources. Chosen interns will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including a booster.
Applicants will be evaluated by Shubert's 10-member Education and Training subcommittee. Last year's internship program saw 86 applicants from 24 tri-state area high schools and from 25 colleges and universities nationwide. Fifteen candidates were selected to interview, with six ultimately chosen for the internships.
