Actor, writer, and director Erik Jensen and family have launched a GoFundMe to help with expenses as Jensen battles stage IV colorectal cancer. With the page, they hope to raise support to counteract the cost of treatment and additional expenses.
"Erik is a survivor," the GoFundMe description reads. "We know he can make it through this, come out the other side, and continue to make great work and support his community for years to come. But Erik and his family are in for the fight of their lives, and they need your support."
The site also shares that Jensen, his wife Jessica Blank, and their 13-year-old daughter Sadie have received health insurance through SAG and occasionally WGA for years. Blank shares that due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the nonexistence of streaming residuals, and Jensen's potential to be recovering from surgery during an earnings period, they are at risk of losing their insurance.
Jensen was seen on Broadway in 2022 as Brunch Bischofberger in Anthony McCarten's The Collaboration. In 2020, Jensen and Blank's co-written plays Coal Country and The Line each premiered at The Public Theatre. Blank is also known for his roles in ESPN's The Bronx is Burning and AMC's The Walking Dead, among others.
"Stage IV is not a death sentence," the GoFundMe page also notes. "Erik is determined to make it through this, and he's working incredibly hard to stay positive and fight for the shot that his doctors know he has. While hearing this news can be scary—if you reach out after reading this, the family would greatly appreciate communications of success stories, positivity and hope."
