A current reading of the in-development musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada takes place this week, with Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner starring as fashion magazine titan Miranda Priestly.
Skinner, currently playing Georgia Holt in Broadway’s The Cher Show, is no stranger to singing composer Elton John’s music on the stage, having previously appeared in the Tony, Oscar, and Grammy winner’s Billy Elliot.
Starring alongside Skinner in the July 1 and 2 industry presentation is Krystina Alabado (Broadway’s Mean Girls) as fledgling assistant Andy Sachs, Heléne Yorke (The Other Two) as Emily, Mario Cantone (Sex and the City) as Nigel, Etai Benson (The Band’s Visit) as Nate, Jo Lampert (Joan of Arc: Into the Fire) as Lily, and Nicholas Christopher (Hamilton) as Christian.
Rounding out the company for the reading are Sydney Charles, Britney Coleman, Dayna Dantzler, Tyrone Davis Jr., Henry Gottfried, Molly Hager, Katie Lee Hill, Anne Hollister, Jessie Hooker-Bailey, Liana Hunt, Christopher Innvar, Blaine Krauss, and Nikka Lanzarone. Leslie Hiatt reads stage directions.
The musical, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and the 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, features lyrics by Shaina Taub and a book by Paul Rudnick. Anna D. Shapiro directs, with Nadia DiGiallonardo serving as music supervisor. Casting is by Stephen Kopel.
No word yet on a production timeline for the musical’s future life, including an expected Broadway bow. Kevin McCollum serves as lead producer.
