Danny Burstein and Victoria Clark
Broadway favorites Danny Burstein and Victoria Clark are the latest stars to join Roundabout’s concert reading of Damn Yankees this winter. The actors will take on the roles of Van Buren and Meg Boyd, respectively.
Tony and Academy Award winner James Earl Jones, previously tapped to play Mr. Welch, will no longer perform due to scheduling conflicts. New casting for that role and others will be announced at a later date.
The one-night-only benefit will take place December 11 at 7:30 PM at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and will be directed by Roundabout associate artist Kathleen Marshall.
Burstein and Clark join the previously announced Whoopi Goldberg, who will play Applegate, and Golden Globe winner Maggie Gyllenhaal, who will play Lola.
Burstein is a six-time Tony Award nominee whose 16 Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Follies, South Pacific, and The Drowsy Chaperone. Clark is a Tony-winning actor and director. In addition to her Tony-winning performance in The Light in the Piazza, her numerous Broadway credits include Gigi, Cinderella, Sister Act, Cabaret, and Titanic.
Proceeds from Damn Yankees will benefit Roundabout’s programming, education, and outreach initiatives.
In Damn Yankees, George Abbott, Douglass Wallop, Richard Adler, and Jerry Ross’ Tony-winning musical, a man sells his soul to the devil to become a baseball player and help his beloved Washington Senators beat the Yankees in the World Series. The show debuted on Broadway in 1955, and was last seen on Broadway in 1993.
The benefit presentation of Damn Yankees is presented by special arrangement with Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Scott Landis.
