The original production of the Tony Award-nominated Best Musical Mame, which features a classic score by Jerry Herman, opened May 24, 1966—50 years ago today.
The original Broadway production of Mame starred Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury in the title role. The stage and screen star reprised her performance for the 1983 Broadway revival and is scheduled to attend a reunion of the original cast in New York May 26.
