Caroline O'Connor will replace Beth Leavel in the West Coast concert engagement of Mack & Mabel next year.
Staged by Los Angeles-based Equity company All Roads Theatre Company, the four-performance concert series of Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart’s beloved musical will now star O'Connor as Lottie Ames, Dermot Mulroney as Mack, and Jenna Lea Rosen as Mabel.
The concerts will be presented February 16, 17, and 18, 2024, at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.
While a concert, the production will be fully staged and choreographed, with an 18-piece orchestra and a cast of 40. The concerts will be directed and choreographed by ARTCO Founder and Producing Artistic Director Scott Thompson and conducted by ARTCO Co-founder Fred Barton.
The 1974 musical Mack & Mabel tells the story of silent film director Mack Sennett and his conflicted romance with his top female star, Mabel Normand. The original Broadway production ran only 66 performances with Tony winners Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters in the title roles.
Michael Stewart wrote the musical’s book. Jerry Herman’s score is beloved among theatre fans, with such songs as “I Won't Send Roses,” “Time Heals Everything,” “Big Time,” “Tap Your Troubles Away,” “Hundreds of Girls,” and “When Mabel Comes in the Room.”
