Macbeth announced April 10 that performances are cancelled through April 11 as the production navigates a limited number of the company, including Daniel Craig, testing positive for COVID-19. The show will return to the stage April 12.
The show had three preview performances ahead of cancelling its April 1 performance which was subsequently followed by the cancellation of following performances. According to social media, "Due to the technical complexities of the production and the physical safety of the entire company, April 11 will be spent rehearsing with Daniel Craig, Ruth Negga, the cast, and understudies in order to resume on April 12." Starring Daniel Craig as Macbeth opposite Ruth Negga as the relentless Lady Macbeth in the Shakespeare tragedy filled with ambition and murder, Macbeth is directed by Sam Gold. Gold has previously worked with Craig on New York Theatre Workshop's Othello with David Oyelowo in the title role.
The cast also features Phillip James Brannon, Grantham Coleman, Asia Kate Dillon, Maria Dizzia, Amber Gray, Emeka Guindo, Paul Lazar, Bobbi MacKenzie, Michael Patrick Thornton, and Danny Wolohan. Che Ayende, Eboni Flowers, and Peter Smith complete the ensemble and Stevie Ray Dallimore is the standby for Macbeth.
