Summit Health Cares has announced its annual Broadway Rocks Cancer benefit concert will return to Bend, Oregon's Tower Theatre December 13. Christopher J. Hanke (Rent, Cry-Baby) will serve as host.
Performers will include Alex Ellis (Catch Me If You Can, Titaníque), Michael Fatica (Frozen, Beetlejuice), Carly Hughes (Chicago, The Book of Mormon), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hair, Parade), Natalie Joy Johnson (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), Grasan Kingsberry (The Color Purple, Catch Me if You Can), Sylvia MacCalla (Rent, Hairspray), Sean Montgomery (The Music Man, Matilda the Musical), Austin Phillips (Parade, My Best Friend’s Wedding), Danny Quadrino (Newsies, Wicked), and Justin Showell (Hamilton, A Sign of the Times).
Proceeds from the benefit go toward the Cancer Comfort Project, which provides resources including one-on-one patient navigation services, mind/body programs, patient-in-need grants, and more, all aiming to provide comfort and ease stress and anxiety for patients.
This year, funds will also help to provide underserved Oregonians with backpacks and mittens through community drives, as well as provide diapers and period products to families through the Fresh Start program.
"Patients in the oncology unit are so grateful for all the support that Summit Health Cares provides,” Toni Metherall, nurse resource navigator for Summit Health Care Bend said in a statement. “The patient-in-need grants are a perfect example. Through these grants, patients are able to get transportation to their appointments and purchase needed nutritional supplements during their cancer journey."
