Broadway Licensing has added the Broadway-aimed musical Anne of Green Gables to its catalogue. Adapted from L.M. Montgomery's book, the musical made its world premiere in 2022 at Goodspeed Musicals, and was developed by Justin Nichols and The Rev Theatre Company in 2018. An album was released in 2020 via Broadway Records, and is available on streaming platforms.
The classic story follows Anne Shirley after being sent to live with the Cuthberts on their farm, Green Gables. This musical adaptation, with a book and lyrics by Matte O'Brien and music by Matt Vinson, tells the tale with a contemporary score.
“Our entire team is captivated by this vibrant and new adaptation,” says Ted Chapin, chief executive officer of Broadway Licensing Global (of which Broadway Licensing is an imprint) in a statement. “Welcoming Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical into our catalogue allows us, alongside lead producers Eric Cornell and Jack Sennott of Cornice Productions, to introduce this exciting new piece to audiences worldwide.”
"There is genuine excitement for a new stage adaptation of Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical, and we have already received a number of licensing requests," adds Cornell. "We are thrilled to strategically partner with Broadway Licensing to meet this demand as part of our Broadway, touring, and international planning."
