Black Theatre Coalition (BTC) is partnering up with the Cody Renard Richard Scholarship, which supports undergraduate and graduate students of color pursuing degrees in any offstage theatrical field.

The Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) established the scholarship program alongside stage manager and producer Cody Renard Richard in 2020. In the four years since its establishment, the program has accepted 45 students and awarded $340,000 total in scholarship funds.

As in past years, the fifth annual program will award a financial grant to 10 recipients, while also offering work sessions focused on leadership skills, community building, and mentorship. The cycle concludes with an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to meet with mentors, attend panels with industry professionals, and more.

“We are thrilled to announce that going forward, The Cody Renard Richard Scholarship Program will be under the stewardship of the Black Theatre Coalition," Richard said in a statement. "BTC embodies the principles and possesses the capability to expand on the achievements made through BAC and propel CRR Scholarship into its next stage of development.”

Students eligible for the CRR Scholarship include Black, Latine, Asian, or Indigenous American citizen students in financial need studying non-performance related theatre studies, particularly stage management, directing, writing, designing, producing, or other administrative fields.

Applications are open now through November 24.  Eligible applicants will need to submit a one-minute video essay describing why they are the ideal candidate for the program, along with their current transcript and two letters of recommendation. Recipients will be selected and informed by January 2025.
