ArtsEmerson will continue its mission to push boundaries with its 10th anniversary season, offering 10 productions from around the globe.

Among the highlights are the world premiere of Detroit Red, written by Will Power and directed by Lee Sunday Evans, debuting February 1, 2020. The play is focused on Malcom X’s time living in Boston in the '40s before he became one of America’s most famous activists.

South Africa's Isango Ensemble returns to Boston with their interpretation of The Magic Flute, bowing November 6. Mixing Mozart's story with Cape Town sounds, the staging heads back to Boston after playing the city in 2014.

Another return to Massachusetts is two-time Tony nominee Denis O'Hare (Take Me Out, Assassins) in the revival of An Iliad, which he co-created with director Lisa Paterson, beginning November 20.

Plata Quemada will have its U.S. premiere in spring 2020, using live action and animated projections. Other premieres include the first U.S. tour of The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter from Australia's disability-inclusive theatre company Back to Back in January 2020, as well as the U.S. debut of Passengers by 7 Fingers in October 2019.

The season also includes Triptych (Eyes of One on Another), Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, 69˚S (The Shackleton Project), and Metamorphosis.
