
J.M. Synge's The Playboy of the Western World, as directed by Abbey artistic director Ben Barnes, is celebrating the Dublin company's 100th anniversary. The drama revolves around a stranger who throws a small village into an uproar with tales of grandeur. The staging opened in Galway, Ireland, June 12 and will follow its American tour with a return six-week engagement at the Abbey Theatre. Dates are set for the work to be presented at Boston, Philadelphia, New Haven, Stamford and Chicago.
The cast includes Tom Vaughan Lawlor, Cathy Belton, Olwen Fouere, Andrew Bennett, Maeliosa Stafford, John Olohan, Brendan Conroy, David Herlihy, Kelly Campbell, Ciara O'Callaghan, Katy Davis and Simon O'Gorman.
The design team features Guido Tondino (set) and Rupert Murray (lighting).
