Before NBC's production of The Sound of Music aired live on Dec. 5, 2013, Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company released this video primer covering the original Broadway production starring Mary Martin, the classic film starring Julie Andrews, the NBC production starring Carrie Underwood and all points in between. "On Stage Across America" Visits Salzburg to Uncover the History of The Sound of Music
In Sept. 2014, NY1's "On Stage Across America" visited Salzburg, Austria to take a look at the locations used in the classic 1965 film "The Sound of Music." Frank DiLella investigates the city's connection to the film and the stage production and takes a look at a current German language theatrical production, an extensive sightseeing tour that visits the film's locations and an ongoing marionette theatre production featuring the voices of Broadway performers Jonathan Groff and Christiane Noll.
The Von Trapp Children Unearth Memories From "The Sound of Music"
In June of 2012, three of the actors that played the Von Trapp children in the classic 1965 film — Heather Menzies (Louisa), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich) and Kym Karath (Gretl) — stopped by the Playbill offices to talk about "The Sound of Music Family Scrapbook." Complied by the seven kids in the film, the book collects personal photos, letters, home movies and memories of life on set and after the film was released.
Seth Rudetsky and Mystery Guest Perform "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" for Not Since High School Concert
In Aug. 2014, radio host, author, musician, actor and Playbill.com personality Seth Rudetsky presented Not Since High School a charitable concert at 42West that raised funds for the music program at MS 245, a New York City middle school. Guests including Sierra Boggess, Christine Ebersole, Keala Settle and Jose Llana performed tunes that were the highlights of their school days. In this promo for the show, a special mystery guest (you'll see why!) rehearsed his tune — "Sixteen Going on Seventeen."
