Principal Responsibilities
The Head Carpenter will tour with the show full-time to lead operation, load-in and load-out of carpentry crew and coordination of all technical departments. They will act as the supervisor for the touring crew as well as the local provided labor crew in each touring city. They will work in coordination with Production Carpenter and Production Manager on tour scheduling and logistics, and work in partnership with the tour Production Stage Manager and Company Manager.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for safely loading in and loading out all technical elements in various venues around the country.
- Training local labor to be able to successfully operate and support touring performances.
- Maintaining the integrity of the physical production set out by the Productions’ Creative Team and Designers
- Creating and maintaining a safe work environment for the Touring Company, Local Labor, and Audiences.
- Completing the Crossroads Live Head Carpenter venue report upon completion of each touring engagement.
- Tracking all touring crew hours and submitting payroll to Production Management and Company Management at the end of each week.
- Updating and maintaining truck packs during the production and operating periods.
- Managing Crew Swing schedule through the tour’s operating period to ensure proper coverage.
- Prepare paperwork and schedules for future venues and correspond with venue representatives in advance of each engagement. Communicate advance information with other department heads, as needed.
- Prepare truck schedule for each move and stay in contact with the lead driver and dispatch to ensure calls are followed.
- Managing the touring crew on the sleeper bus jumps.
- Running a deck carpenter track during performances
- Repair or direct the repair of scenic elements, as needed.
- Recommend maintenance on scenery and automation equipment as observed during the normal operation of the show.
- Consult with Company Management about crew changes on the settlement weekly or at the end of each engagement.
- Arrival on time and ready to work at the start of each call.
Qualifications
Team Player, able to work long hours in close quarters with different types of personalities.
Understanding of the IATSE Pink Contract rules and guidelines.
Excellent communication, organizational, and safety skills are essential.
Familiarity of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Scenic carpentry experience, including: woodworking, metalworking, basic mechanics, fabric repairs, etc.
Theatrical rigging knowledge including counterweight and automation. Chain Motor repair skills are a plus.
Minimum of 2 years experience working on an IATSE Pink Contract touring production is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
Knowledge of or experience in road venues throughout the country is a plus.
Must be comfortable with sleeper bus travel.
Experience supporting an IATSE Pink Contract tour through the initial production period is a plus.
Salary
Base weekly salary: $1,600 DOE and up + All Applicable Overtime Per Non-League Bus and Truck Pink Contract
